Lonely in Bangkok: French photographer captures solitude in chaotic capital

Despite the hectic traffic, swarming crowds and notorious entertainment spots, some say there is a certain coldness about Bangkok, one that makes you feel alone at times.

Alienated by his inability to speak Thai or even English, French photographer Jean-Sebastien Faure captured his four “lost” years in the city in his art exhibition “Lonely in Bangkok.”

Faure photographed empty streets to display the loneliness and disorientation of a teeming city as he wandered through the concrete jungle with no sense of direction.

“There was never a city that so rattled me with the violence and the richness of its contrasts: Bangkok, and the spectacle it unfurls, force-feeds us to nausea but never really satisfies us,” Faure said about his exhibition.

The exhibition runs from Jan. 9 to Feb. 28, 2016 at Kathmandu Photo Gallery. The opening party starts at 6:30pm this Saturday.
