Koh Samet’s Ao Phrao finally open tomorrow

The ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has announced that Ao Phrao beach at Koh Samet is now safe for tourists and will fully open tomorrow.

Oil from the PTT spill in July turned the private beach into a black dystopia, but things are looking a lot better currently. What we worry about is what’s beneath the surface of the water and the sand though.

The ministry announced on Tuesday that the beach’s condition has been restored to its original state, with the TPH rate (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) now less than 1 microgram per liter. Coral has also been observed naturally reviving, the ministry said.

Choti Trachu, Permanent Secretary, said that the ministry has appointed a committee to monitor the situation and continue examining the impact of the oil for the next one year, Sanook reported.
