While a stay in a Maldives overwater bungalow is a travel goal for, well, basically, anyone who’s into travel, it’s pretty much out of the budget for almost everyone.
But hey — we can get the look for less with this budget-priced, luxury-looking resort near Pattaya. It offers sumptuous-looking bungalows over the sea and beside a pool. Aside from the location just two hours from downtown Bangkok by car, it also has a pretty price tag: rooms start at THB2,700 (US$82) while the ultra luxe overwater villas start at THB14,700 (US$448).
Open for just over a year, this accessible spot has a nautical theme with rooms decked out in shiplap siding, round porthole-style windows is finished in whites, blues, and light colored woods.
Upgrade to fancy extras if you like, the fancier villas have private pools shaped like boat hulls. Treat yo’self since you don’t have to spring for that private flight from Male, the Maldives main port, to some far-flung island.
After a swim, belly up at the beachfront bar of pull up a floor cushion on the floating dock lounge, perfect for contemplating the sea or just getting some pics pretending that you are.
Guests say they love that the resort has a live singer performing by the pool most nights after dinner.
If you want to get off the resort, which is about 30 minutes from Pattaya’s center and about halfway between Pattaya and Sattahip beaches, you can jump on one of the resort’s free bicycles and pedal around to explore the area for yourself.
Maybe you can even get away with tagging yourself in the Maldives (we’ll never tell).
