If you ever get stuck in pouring rain and know that the BTS trains are going to be insanely crowded (and wet) for another hour, then here’s a good place to wait it out.
A minimalist cafe-slash-art gallery called Palette Artspace opened just a few days ago, literally within 10 steps away from BTS Thong Lo exit No. 3. The space takes over all five floors of the building, and serves different functions — from a cafe on the first floor, workshop space on the second floor, a gallery on the third and fourth, and an outdoor rooftop space on the fifth.
The cafe, called Palette Milk Bar, sits on the ground floor and is very minimalist, with white walls, wooden furniture and a few green plants. It’s where customers walk in to grab a cup of coffee, cocoa, milk and tea (ranging from THB65 to THB75), and study or work on their laptops. Next to the counter is a cake display that sells a selection of sweet treats such as cookies, brownies and red velvet cake.
Currently the gallery is running a show called Mommy Hug, a solo exhibition by Thai artist Tawee Ratchaneekorn, who portrays the bond between a child and mother through his paintings and brush work. Admission is free.
Palette Artspace is open from 7am until 9pm every day, and is located next to BTS Thong Lor exit No. 3 near Soi Sukhumvit 55.
