We’re pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to live music acts and concerts here in Bangkok. While the city offers a variety of venues – from grand convention halls to tiny lounges – next month, music lovers are going to get to enjoy a rock show on a ship.
Ice Age Live in Bangkok is part of the world tour of Copenhagen-based post-punk group Ice Age, which will be playing on a party vessel called Bangkok Island. The Danish rockers will perform live on the boat while it cruises along Bangkok’s lifeblood, the Chao Phraya River.
The indie rock quartet was formed back in 2008 by four teen talents – Johan Surrballe Wieth, Dan Kjær Nielsen, Elias Bender Rønnenfelt and Jakob Tvilling Pless. If you’re not yet familiar with their music, then we’d suggest scoping out “Catch It,” “The Lord’s Favorite” and “Ecstasy” for an idea of their sound.
Apart from Ice Age, Bangkok-based electronic outfit Rock Shreller and post-rock group Dogwhine will be there too, as the opening acts.
Tickets start at THB800 and are available online. Tickets at the door are THB1,250 each.
The concert will take place on Saturday, June 1. Bangkok Island will pick up revelers at 8pm from a dock at Taksin Bridge, which is located right next to BTS Saphan Taksin.
Bangkok Island is the brainchild of Yuval Schwok, who is also the owner of hip hostel-art venue The Overstay. After years of renovation work, the party ship debuted in December 2018 and can now accommodate up to 350 people. Since its launch, Bangkok Island has hosted events such as a St. Patrick’s Day party and the LGBT Pride Cruise.
