Homebass Reunion: Bangkok’s drum-and-bass pioneers to do it all again one more time

They made drum-and-bass a thing back when no one had heard of it let alone give them a good night at a club.

A decade after the Homebass Communications crew packed up their kits together for the last time, Mongkorn, Wen, Pichy, Tul and Abu will reunite on Jan. 30 for a reunion party to be held at Grease.

“We started Homebass fucking ages ago, and it was like one of the first drum-and-bass crews back in 2000,” said Mongkorn “Dragon” Timkul.  “We had a radio show and brought in a lot of the UK guys. We were the first people to do that in Thailand.”

In 2000 Homebass Communications started as a radio show and concert organizer building a scene from scratch. Mongkorn said although the events didn’t draw big crowds at first, it was a community of friends experimenting with their sounds to build something together. Soon they found a home at the old location of Cafe Democ and things went big from there.

A decade after everyone went their own ways, the principals will return to their stations for a night of drum-and-bass past, present and future.

The party is free and starts at 10pm.
