Hang the DJ: Episode 15 – DJ Ballistic

How did you get into DJ-ing?

I was listening to a lot of rap music back in 2000 in the USA, so I bought a set of turntables. I tried to mess around with them by myself, but at first it didn’t work. I eventually taught myself to be a rapper and producer, and sold all my vinyls and turntables in 2004. But my passion in music never changed, so I came back to DJ-ing and started doing the CMYK parties in 2008.

Describe the music you play in five words.

Harmonic, uplifting, chilling, hypnotizing, relaxing

What’s the most fun you’ve ever had at a gig? Give us all the ugly details.

Anytime that all people on the dance floor just can’t stop jumping and dancing, that’s when I’m the happiest.

What’s your favorite venue to play in Bangkok?

I always love to play at Demo. I have been doing the CMYK events there for almost three years now. All my favorite people always go there, it happens every last Wednesday of the month.

Which track are you most excited about right now?

Shadow Child – “23”

YouTube video

Trap music: yea or nay?

Yes. I’m from the hip-hop and rap music industry originally, so I love the hip hop vibe in trap music, if you know what I mean.

“ ______ always packs the dance floor.”

A good party, not necessarily during the weekend

What’s one song you have played before but will never, ever play again?

I don’t have one. I like most of the songs I’ve decided to download.

What’s the best way for someone to get you to play their request?

Request what I like, or a similar song, which I’m playing right at the moment.

What shows/residencies do you have lined up?

The CMYK party at Demo in Thonglor and the Siam Hiphop (sic) parties at the Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit on Sukhumvit 57 in Thonglor. I also DJ parties for Retox Sessions.
