The insulting wealth of Bangkok’s party scene exists in large part due to the DJs who organize, promote and rock the living hell out of the city’s nightlife offerings. In “Hang the DJ,” we endeavor to better know our beatmakers through a select, preset questionnaire.
How did you get into DJ-ing?
I got into DJing through two close friends of mine in Germany in 2006. Tobias Roemer and Toby White showed me the art of turntablism, as I was very curious and interested. My passion for music had always been there and my drive to learn was very strong! So I dedicated myself to learning, sometimes for more than eight hours at a time on the Technics 1210’s and the Pioneer DJM 600. In the beginning, I was just very talented at making a mess in Toby’s vinyl cases. But I eventually evolved into a DJ who was secure enough to start playing at the clubs in Germany.
Describe the music you play in five words.
Boom Tschaka Umm Boom Tschaka!!
What’s the most fun you’ve ever had at a gig? Give us all the ugly details.
The most fun ever at a gig must have been at one of the Jungle Experience parties in Koh Phangan. Everybody there goes crazy and so do I! I love that there are no limits and even the DJ can just dance with the crowd and rip off his shirt and scream into the crowd! I LOVE IT THERE! NO LIMITS! And it’s all about the music!
What’s your favorite venue to play in Bangkok?
One of my favorite venues to play in Bangkok has to be Glow Nightclub as it has this Berlin kind of flair and vibe to it. But also the world-renowned Bed Supper Club is an amazing place to play, especially with my boys from Champion Sound. We are currently creating a great milestone in underground house music nights with amazing bookings coming up this year.
Which track are you most excited about right now?
I have different favorites in different genres and to pick out one is very hard. There are too many great tracks being released right now, but here are a few examples.
Intro : “Shades of Red” by Sebo K

Deep House: “My Love Is Underground” by Hector Couto

Tech House: “Tell The People” by David Glass

Dubstep: yea or nay?
Personally, dubstep is not really my genre, but it is a matter of taste. It is a very modern way of musical expression; people who like it should show it and express it.
“ ______ always packs the dance floor.”
Depends on the crowd, really. If you want commercial just throw in some David G. I don’t wanna speak out the name cause it makes me wanna puke. But for the crowd that likes my type of music it would be “Doin’ ya thang” by Oliver $.

What’s one song you will never, ever play?
Anything ranging from David Guetta to Rihanna passing by Shakira and Beyonce. Please don’t request anything like that!
What’s the best way for someone to get you to play their request?
Just request something cool and fitting to my style!
What shows/residencies do you have lined up?
I am a resident at Bash, where I play every Monday and Tuesday. I’m also a resident DJ for Champion Sound, playing at Bed Supperclub on Thursdays monthly. I am also the promoter and resident DJ of Underground Circus at Glow Nightclub. That’s every second Saturday of the month. Check out our Songkran edition this Saturday, April 13th!
