Gramps with Amps: Senior Thai rockers break age barrier and walker in first MV (VIDEO)

The first music video from “Bennetty,” a band of senior Thai rockers with members as old as 86, has gone viral today and with good reason. These aged, experienced musicians can tear it up as well as bands half their age.

The five-piece is comprised of grandpas aged 64 to 86 years old and one senior female dancer, who stars in the video as she dances through a deserted hospital’s Internal Medicine wing with grace and poise.

The video opens with a slogan that says, “Life and death are not scary things. The scary thing is letting your dreams die.” It then shows with the oldest member of the band,  mouth organist Boonserm Chuchuay, 86, being helped down the slope to the center of an old, empty concrete stadium where he hits on an old metal chair to play. The musician wows us all when starts to jam.

The video then cuts to other members of the band: the guitarist, keyboard player, bass player, and vocalist.

The dancer, Prof. Pornrat Damrung, is actually a well-respected figure in the Thai arts world. She was a former theatrical professor at Chulalongkorn University before retiring in 2015.

Their song Jood Derm, loosely translates to “Back to Square One,” it says that we should not fear falling in love, because when we find ourselves back at square one, we will find out that we’ve lost nothing and will cherish the experience of falling in love.

The lyrics say, “When you go back to square one, you’ve lost nothing more than love and tears. When pain fades away and you’re back to square one, you find that something is so beautiful once you look back.”

The rest of the video is filled with epic moments, such as when the band’s oldest member throws away his walker.

And when the keyboard player frees himself from a rocking chair.

The video was released last night by advertising agency Choojai and promotes the idea that “dreams don’t get old” as the grandpas had always wanted to start the band.

While this could be a start of some viral marketing content, we know for sure we’d like to party with these grandpas and grandma.

The agency has mentioned that they will release more videos following the lives of each member.
