A new community mall in Bangkok’s Ekkamai area will open this weekend with a two-day event dedicated to eco-friendly lifestyles.
Visit the Bangkok Sustainability Fair on Saturday and Sunday for a plant-based food market, vendors selling eco-friendly products, a yard sale, clothes swap, clothes mending station, and recycling station. The event is also a chance to hear from and meet with professionals in the green industry.
“I want people to come together and connect, because when people talk, things happen. This is an important moment for sustainability. It’s the hype word now and we see the word thrown out left and right, but what does sustainability really mean?” said Anne Somanas, founder of Bangkok Recycling Chain and organizer of the event.
The event is hosted by Bangkok Recycling Chain, a English-speaking, sustainability-focused group formed on Facebook. The group was founded in 2020 and has grown to nearly 6,000 members.
Anne said she had envisioned organizing an event since last year as a way to unite people in the community.
“I can feel that people are hungry for down-to-earth, zero-waste events that put sustainability front and foremost … We will not go heavy on the displays, because this is about community and fostering organic connections between socially responsible businesses and the consumers who are passionate about the environment.”
“We hope that everyone will come away from our fair encouraged that together we CAN achieve sustainability, and it’s not a word that’s distant or in the future something that is going to happen, but something that we are creating together NOW,” Anne said in a message.
The Bangkok Sustainability Fair will be held from 10am until 6pm this Saturday and Sunday at EKM6, an eco-friendly mall that opens Saturday. The venue is located on Soi Ekkamai 6, a short ride from BTS Ekkamai.
An after-party will run from 6pm to 8pm on Saturday night.
