Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, better known as Jaime Lannister from HBO series Game of Thrones, will make an appearance at the Global Goals World Cup, a female football competition held in Bangkok on Sept. 30.
Coster-Waldau, a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, will be an honorary judge in the football games at NIST International School, Sukhumvit Soi 15, according to the information on the school’s website.
In case you’re interested, the Global Goals World Cup was initiated by United Development Programme (UNDP) to raise awareness of issues such as “poverty, inequality, and climate change.” You get the picture.
The game has been held in New York, Copenhagen, and most recently in Nairobi, Kenya in March.
Women above the age of 18 are encouraged to form five-member teams, compete, and campaign for one of the 17 “sustainable development goals” available to choose from. On the registration form, your team has to pick one goal that they care for — they come in broad, NGO-esque categories such as “no poverty,” and “peace, justice and strong institutions.”
Teams will receive special points for creative ways of supporting their chosen goal. They will then play a series of friendly matches on the official day of the event, refereed by a Lannister.
So if you’re up for advocating some world problems and playing some football (more specifically, a few games of 7 minutes each), you can sign up here and meet the Game of Thrones star.
