Looking for a train excursion day-trip? ‘Tis the season to enjoy a winter breeze (hopefully) and ride the rails along the country’s longest earthen dam.

The State Railway of Thailand this year will organize train trips from the capital city to the Pasak Jolasid Dam in Lopburi province, which is billed as the nation’s longest at nearly 5 kilometers.

The ride, called rotfai loi nam or floating train trips, usually run during wintertime every year. This year, it will run every weekend from Nov. 16 through Jan. 26.

The schedule is this: The train will leave the Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong) at 7:10am and return from the dam at 3pm. The highlight of the trip is a 30-minute stop midway along the dam, overlooking the reservoir and making for a great photo op.

Holidaymakers should return back to Hua Lamphong at around 6:30pm.

Round-trip tickets are available in two types: THB290 for a carriage with fan and THB490 for air-con. Starting tomorrow, Friday, they can be purchased in advance at train station ticket booths everywhere.
