Phuket might immediately come to mind when we think about beach holidays in Thailand, but don’t forget scenic Koh Samui. Whether you’re looking to soak up the sun or escape to a slower pace of life, this tropical paradise will be sure to rejuvenate and relax you. Staying at one of the villas here is the best way to experience luxurious ‘beach villa life’ in complete privacy.

Self-care shouldn’t have to take a backseat during these times, and since working from home has become the new normal, perhaps a long-term stay at this postcard-esque island just might be what you need. Is this the ultimate upgrade to your remote work setup or what? If anything, the gorgeous villas at Baan Ora Chon or Baan Kilee in Chai Talay Estate will make for a great Zoom background. Maybe your boss doesn’t have to know that your lunch breaks now involve open-sea kayaking or cooking with produce from the estate’s organic garden. After work, your options for unwinding can include full in-villa wellness retreat services, from full-body massages to Reiki and detox treatments.

Sustainability is also a priority, and you won’t find any single-use plastics here. Immersing yourself in nature is easy at these villas, with organic gardens and large outdoor spaces for working out, racket sports or doing yoga. Read on to see why these villas are the natural choice if you’re looking for a long-term stay.

Baan Ora Chon

Booking a villa means you’ll have private access to your own slice of paradise, with no lack of amenities and things to do. Baan Ora Chon is where you can look forward to some well-deserved R&R in your own private sanctuary in Koh Samui. Situated in the quiet region of Lipa Noi, a stay here is perfect for those looking to spend quality time with friends and family, while limiting contact with people you don’t want to hear from.

Here, you and your squad will only be surrounded by greenery, making it a conducive space for when you need to work. Each villa comes with a private pool and direct beach access — something that not many hotels offer. Trust us, you’ll pat yourself on the back when you catch one of Koh Samui’s legendary sunsets, and the equally gorgeous sunrises will make waking up for a work day way easier. After work, you can unwind with a whole host of activities like going for a bike ride or paddle boarding — something you may not get if you just stayed at home.

The architecture throughout Baan Ora Chon is a mix of traditional and modern, and accentuates the area’s natural beauty. Elements of wood, stone and rattan in the villas bring nature indoors, while floor-to-ceiling windows at its world-class gym ensure that your workouts come with a view and air conditioning. If you prefer to sweat it out in the great outdoors, there’s an outdoor functional training zone and exercise areas with boxing bags and more. Lounging at the palatial infinity pool to cool off after is absolutely encouraged, as the picturesque views of the sea make for a gorgeous backdrop to your relaxing stay. At 18 meters in length, it’s more than enough to get those morning laps in for the fit family.

The white sandy shores along Lipa Noi are some of the island’s few beaches where you can swim all year round, and this stretch’s perfect view of the famous Five Islands doesn’t hurt either. Even if you’re just after a chilled-out holiday, relaxation is easy here as the staff will be sure to cater to your every need. Drivers will be available upon request and you can even opt for a private chef if you’re gunning for an uber-luxurious experience.

Baan Kilee

Right next to Baan Ora Chon sits Baan Kilee, which also forms part of Chai Talay Estate. It’s also a good option for larger groups, with choices of four- to eight-bedroom villas set in two acres of lush greenery. The villa is also in the process of upgrading its internet to 5G and Fiber optic internet so rest assured that those Zoom calls will go without a hitch. This property is also wheelchair-friendly and offers an array of activities for the whole family.

There’s a ton of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages — and we’re not just talking about the indoor and outdoor cinema either. Make good use of the perpetually sunny weather by trying your hand at some water sports, or catch a tan by the inviting pool and cool off with a drink from the swim-up bar. Drop the little ones off at the villa’s Kids Zone, which has an extensive toy library, playground, and kids pool.

Swimsuits do seem like the default outfit throughout your whole stay, as guests looking for a dose of vitamin sea will be spoilt for choice. 30 meters of white sands runs parallel to the property, but if that’s somehow not enough, the legendary Maenam Beach is a short drive away. Reducing your screen time after work will be equally easy when you cast your eyes on the endless white sands, turquoise waters and incredible views of Koh Phangan to the north.

A hearty continental breakfast is available daily at the villa, and once you’ve fueled up, it’s time for more adventure. Staying at Baan Kilee means you’re just a 15-minute drive away from some of the island’s most iconic landmarks, such as the famous big Buddha statue at Wat Phra Yai. At a height of 12 meters tall, it’s hard to miss and it’s usually the first thing you’ll see when arriving in Koh Samui by air. We recommend going at different times of the day, to see the Big Buddha come to life with spotlights at dusk.
