Here’s a big one for the hippies, peace makers, and music lovers among us — the E-San Music Festival, which past festival-goers often like to refer to as “Thailand’s Woodstock,” returns for its seventh edition this year on Nov. 24-25 in Khon Kaen province.
Isaan, sometimes spelled Esan, refers to the northeastern region of Thailand. Taking place at Ubon Rattana, Issan’s largest multi-purpose dam, this grassroots festival is known to provide a kaleidoscopic range of live music and entertainment, from rock ‘n’ roll to bluegrass and reggae, by both local and international artists.

The organization team, Isaan Keaw, sees E-San as not just a music festival but also as a more comprehensive lifestyle platform that gives likeminded people the chance to meet and socialize.
“Our slogan is ‘Water, Mountains, Sky, and Fields of Grass’,” said 31-year-old Khon Kaen, native and one of the festival organizers, in an interview with Isaan Record last year.
“It all started with our love for music, movies and backpacking and we’re all into the youth culture of the 1960s and 70s.”

Tickets are available for purchase online starting today.
The pre-sale price is THB350 (about US$10) a pop, which is — to be frank — a breath of fresh air from all the other THB1000+ (US$30+) events that happen throughout the year. Buying tickets at the door will cost a bit more, at THB500 (US$15).
There will also be free shuttle buses to the festival grounds from Ubon Rattana Bus Terminal from 7:30am to 4pm daily.
For those who are already wondering how much airfare to this location will cost — we’ve already checked: Round-trip plane tickets from Bangkok start at around THB1,800 (US$55).
