U.S. Ambassador Kristie Kenney bid a fond farewell to Thailand in her final YouTube dispatch today.
After announcing last month she’d be ending her four years as the top American diplomat in the kingdom, Kenney made the final entry in a memorable series of videos which has ranged from her first annual Songkran music video to her unauthorized “ice bucket challenge” clip, many of which contained a lot of cringe-worthy karaoke to Thai lyrics.
In her farewell footage, Kenney let a camera followed her for a “day in the life of” segment before her time in Thailand is up.
Beside insight into the ambassador’s choice of lunch, the video features a cameo by the former Minister of Transport Chadchart Sittipunt running in his infamous meme outfit. The two seemed to have enjoyed their working relationship as they took to discussing each others’ feline friends at high-level meetings.
Kenney leaves Thailand widely popular for her plucky, personally effusive style that leaned more than it stood on ceremony. Some critics were happy to see her go for anti-coup statements she made, in line with U.S. foreign policy.
No successor has been named to replace Kenney, who will return to Washington to work at the State Department.
Thailand could sit for some time without an American on the job, as partisan politics there have prevented many of President Barack Obama’s appointees from being confirmed by the Senate, some for over a year.
