After her tacky Wat Phra Kaew dress was declared a total fashion faux pas, Mrs. Thailand showed off a new design yesterday for her national costume, which was inspired by origami fish and rice.
Our Mrs. Universe Kanthicha Chimsiri, 33, will proudly sport the “Golden fish, Thai way” dress or as it’s called in Thai. “Tapian Thong Kanlong Thai.” It will be worn in the international beauty competition, which will be held in August in China.
The dress, designed by Tortermfan Chaisiripan, was inspired by rice, which is Thailand’s main export product, and the woven fish mobile which Thais hang above a newborn’s crib for blessing.
Overall, the dress represents Thailand’s simplicity, belief, and abundance of food while the gold silk was selected to showcase our “Suvarnabhumi Kingdom”.
Mrs.Thailand said she gladly accepted criticism of the old stupa dress, which was criticized for offending Buddhist beliefs. She is confident that the new costume will teach the world more about Thailand.
She also said that, because of her stupa dress causing much controversy, more people in Thailand are now aware of her pageant contest, Matichon reported.
