Bangkok ranked 8th most dangerous city for women

While the only concern for men when taking a taxi in Bangkok at night is being overcharged, some women feel they may be potentially attacked when commuting alone in Bangkok, at least according to this YouGov poll.

In a poll result from last year which became popular again online this week, women in the world’s largest cities were asked to rate the cities with the most dangerous transport systems, and Bangkok came in 8th place.

Topping the list is Bogota, Colombia.

The poll was conducted based on the levels of safety in a city, safety at night, verbal and physical harassment, and how helpful they think the city’s authorities are in investigating their harassment.

Reports of harrowing assaults in Thailand, the media still glamorizing rape and the twisted jokes about harassment have not helped the country as it tries to lose its rape culture tag.

Here’s the full list of the cities women found unsafe:

1. Bogota, Colombia

2. Mexico City

3. Lima, Peru

4. New Delhi

5. Jakarta, Indonesia

6. Buenos Aires, Argentina

7. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

8. Bangkok

9. Moscow

10. Manila, Philippines

11. Paris

12. Seoul, South Korea

13. London

14. Beijing

15. Tokyo

16. New York
