Uniqlo, Japan’s casual wear store, is opening a roadside shop in Bangkok’s suburbs on Friday — the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.

The new store spreads over 1,440 sqm. land on Pattanakarn Soi 58, with a free shuttle to take customers to and from Airport Rail Link’s Huamark station. The store is equipped with a parking lot that can accommodate about 50-60 cars.

The reason for choosing the Pattanakarn community is that it is a huge residential area with 700,000 households, local media reported.

Thailand will become the fourth country in the world to have a roadside Uniqlo store, following behind Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. The brand launched its first store in the kingdom in 2011 at CentralWorld, and the Japanese label has proved popular among locals with long lines always spotted at the checkout.

Uniqlo, which already has 35 stores in Thailand, has planned to open three more this year. In addition to the Pattanakarn store, the other two will be at malls outside of Bangkok: Central Mahachai and Central Phitsanulok.
