We’re just one day away from the announcement of the first winner of The Voice Thailand. The show’s “Top Four” contestants will take the stage on Channel 3 at 5:45PM on December 15 for their last performance in the hopes of winning over votes from Thai music fans. The champion will take home cash, a car and a record deal.
The four artists who managed to make it through to the finale represent four different teams and are equipped with four, drastically different singing styles.
In order to be crowned, each singer has to convince viewers that they are worth voting for, a task made even more difficult by the fact that in this case, voting for your favorite singer will cost you.
There are two voting options available: pay THB6 to send an SMS during the show for one vote or spend THB20 on downloading a song for two votes. So, who will be the most effective wallet drainer?
This question is not too close to answer for some Thai media sources. Thairath strongly suggested that the winner of this competition will be “Keng” Thachaya Prathumwan, a prodigy of rap and hip-hop artist Joey Boy. The paper reasoned that Keng’s ability to constantly “wow” people would earn him the reward.
The 23-year-old Songkhla native started off as a strong contestant with his rendition of Rihanna’s “What’s My Name?” in the Blind Audition. Some said that it was the best cover of the song ever performed by a Thai national. One of Keng’s best shows was his quarterfinal performance of Modern Dog’s hit song “Busaba,” to which he added a huge amount of Thainess by painting half of his face white, as if he was wearing a Khon mask, and featuring a group of man-puppet dancers on the stage.
In opposition to Thairath’s endorsement of Keng, Komchadluek said “King” Pichet Buakhum, coached by LOVEiS’s singer and songwriter “Stamp” Apiwat Eauthavornsuk, was a potential champion.
With a raspy voice and an ability to hit remarkably high notes, the 34-year-old backing vocalist turned four coaches’ chairs in his first audition by singing Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.” His most memorable moment was his battle with “Neng” Pichaiyut Chanklub in a cover of Flure’s “Ruedoo Tee Chan Ngao”. The Youtube clip of that battle attracted over 3.5 million views in eight weeks.
Jennifer Kim, “Ta” Trakarn Srisangchan was saved last week by Thailand to make the Top 4. Proving that age is merely a number, the 15-year-old solo artist has showcased his God-given talent through many ambitious country songs, including “Yad Nguer Puer Mae” by Takatan Chonlada, “Glab Ma Tummai” by Egarat Suwanaphum and “Pee Pai Doo Noo Pai Duay” by Phumphuang Duangchan. However, despite his lovable character and strong Looktung spirit, he was criticized for lack of variety in his show.
The last contestant who secured advancement to the final episode is “Non” Thanon Chamroen from Team “Kong” Saharat Sangkapricha, Nuvo lead vocalist. The 16-year-old Phuket local was brought to tears when he heard his name announced after last week’s rendition of “Kob Jai Jing Jing”, a Thongchai Mcintyre song. He first impressed the judges with “Fah”, a song by Tattoo Color, and it is believed that his gift to entertain coupled with an outgoing character have earned him a spot amongst the finalists.
Tomorrow, these four singers enter contention for the championship. Even though some predictions have been made, anything could happen onstage.
