Weekend Warrior: What to do this weekend in Bangkok – February 22, 2013

Welcome to Weekend Warrior, where we offer you a few ideas to kick-start your weekend of mayhem. Warriors, go forth.

Friday

Berlin Beats Farewell Party at Glow

Berlin Beats is bidding Bangkok adieu in a fashion typical to founders Felix Moreno and Jaydudd – loudly and with great energy. Tonight, the duo will take the DJ booth at Glow for the last time, bringing a healthy mixture of techno, house and electronica to one of Bangkok’s most popular nightlife destinations.

10pm. THB200 (includes one free drink) before midnight. Glow Nightclub, 96/4-5 Sukhumvit Soi 23, Bangkok, Thailand.  MRT Sukhumvit station.

Saturday

Felix Cartal at Q Bar

A major force in the EDM scene, Vancouver’s Felix Cartal has seen his career steadily rise since joining Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records roster in 2010. Trailing a stream of high-profile remixes (Britney Spears, Tiesto, Chris Brown) and chalking up just as many of his own hits (“Love,” “Valcano,” et al), Cartal has more than justified his own hype.

10pm. THB600 (includes two free drinks). Q Bar, Sukhumvit 11, Khlong Tan Nuea, Vadhana, Bangkok 10110, Thailand.  BTS Nana station.

Sunday

Dirty Beaches at SOL Space

Taiwanese/Canadian musician Alex Zhang plays spooky, spacious indie rock of a quality rarely seen in Bangkok. His most popular pieces include “Lord Knows Best” and “Speedway King,” both of which employ ambient moods in manners mysterious and starkly gorgeous. Get your tickets early if you’re interested in this show, because promoter Supersweet Live is billing it as the first in a series of “mini” performances.

8pm. THB600 advance, THB700 day of. SOL Space, 581/3 Ramkhamhaeng 1, Thep Lila Yaek 1, Wang Thonglang, Bangkok 10310, Thailand.
