Thailand gettin’ Gangnam wit’ it

The global phenomenon that is “Gangnam Style”, an infectious K-pop song written and produced by South Korean rapper Psy, has inspired a huge number of homages.

Now Thailand has its very own “Gangnam Style” by Bangkok-based student Krit Boonyarung, age 23, better known online as Bie the Ska.

His parody of the smash Korean single (148 million views and counting), is already up to 2.7 million views on YouTube.

In a recent interview with BK magazine about the making of the video, he says:

“Most scenes were easy to shoot, like the ones on the MRT, but for the scene at the fountain in front of Central World we had to trick a group of security guards by saying one of us had lost our bag.

“When they went searching for it, we took off our clothes and shot the scene really quickly. Then we ran away as soon as the guards returned.”

The name of the song refers to the high-end lifestyle associated with the trendy Gangnam district in Seoul, which the artist Psy has compared to Beverly Hills.

The song itself is about “the perfect girlfriend who knows when to be refined and when to get wild”.
