The Silverlake Music Festival, taking place Jan. 28, 2012 at Silverlake Vineyard in Pattaya, is aiming take its place in the pantheon of international music festivals like Glastonbury, Coachella, and Big Day Out.
It’s got a long way to go, but securing SoCal rockers Incubus at is a great first step.
The festival held a press conference today Nov. 22 at Siam Paragon to build buzz and preview the location. Founders and organizers of the fest were there, as well as many of the Thai artists that will perform.
The original idea for the fest came from Thailand music industry veteran Jack Pattanatabut, of Thailand’s biggest concert production company JSS, and Surachai Tangjaitrong, the owner of Silverlake Vineyard. Both are musicians and music lovers and decided that Surachai’s site would be perfect for an international music festival. Bob Samithisawad, a sound engineer and musician himself, was put in charge of all operations and the event was born.
“Our facilities can accommodate 25,000 to a maximum of 30,000 people this year,” Bob said today. “But the vineyard can hold 50,000. We’re hoping that this festival can put Thailand on the world map.”
