No, you don’t have to go back to the farang-packed, booty-call dance club this weekend.
Little did you know, an undercurrent of true avant-garde culture runs through Bangkok, carried along by forces like Hitman Jazz, a jazz label started in 2005 and bent on introducing people young and old to the music scene.
On Friday Jan. 13, Hitman is hosting Jazz by the River at the Millennium Hilton, an evening of music and dining featuring international artists Jakob Dinesen, Jonathan Fritzen and Malene Mortensen, as well as local legend Koh Mr. Saxman.
The evening will see guests “sipping great wine, while chilling with stunning performances from evening until late night,” said Hitman Jazz general manager Apison Chokpitakkul. He promises the evening will be “spectacular” as well as family-friendly, fulfilling the company’s mission to foster not only the artists, but a local appreciation for jazz.
“We believe the demand for quality jazz music is noticeably growing,” the company website says. “Hitman Jazz realizes that it’s not easy to market niche music in such a traditional media world, but we do have faith in our music, our artists, and more importantly, in our audiences who have contributed so greatly in our previous success.”

18.00-19.00 – 360 House band featuring 360 singers
19.15-20.15 – Asawin band (TBC) featuring Jakob Dinesen
20.30-21.30 – Malene Mortensen Duo with Carl Mörner Ringström (guitarist)
21.45-23.00 – Jonathan Fritzen and Koh Mr.Saxman
