The insulting riches of Bangkok’s party scene exist thanks in no small part to the army of DJs who organize, promote and rock the living hell out of the city’s nightlife. In “Hang the DJ,” Coconuts gives you a chance to get acquainted with some of the capital’s better beatsmiths.
Episode 2: Moodwax
How did you get into DJ-ing?
For me, DJing was a natural progression. It started off as a hobby playing at my friends’ private house parties. Eventually, as I got more confident I took myself out to nightclubs and since then I never looked back. Besides DJing, I am also very focused on production because I feel that these days, it’s much harder to become a successful artist if you don’t produce your own material.
Describe the music you play in five words.
Deep. Hypnotic. Bass. Futuristic. House.
What’s the most fun you’ve ever had at a gig? Give us all the ugly details.
I played a show in Hong Kong recently and the gig went down really well. It was supposed to be a two-hour set but I ended up playing for four hours. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed it so much that we even decided to carry it on in someone’s apartment. We didn’t have the equipment there so I ended up sitting on the floor with a laptop connected to a HI-FI system, playing for around 30 people for another two hours. It was unconventional, but really special as I was using online software called AtomixMP3 to mix the tracks together.
What’s your favorite venue to play in Bangkok?
Glow Nightclub is a favorite of mine for sure, because this venue is always pushing the limits to keep the music policy as fresh and underground as possible. They have a great line up of local promoters who throw regular events. This keeps the scene interesting as everyone has something different to bring to the table.
Which track are you most excited about right now?
It’s actually a forthcoming release of mine called “In A Heartbeat” on a label called Electronique Digital from the UK. So far every time I play it the reactions is always good from the crowd. I’m hoping this track will make its way across many dance floors worldwide.

Dubstep: yea or nay?
I am quite open to different genres and have recently discovered some really cool underground dubstep that has a lot of two-step garage and house influence, and that’s surely tasty for my ears.
“______ always packs the dance floor.”
Shadow Child – “So High”

What’s one song you will never, ever play?
I am going to with “Gangnam Style” on this one for sure.
What’s the best way for someone to get you to play their request?
Personally speaking, I always prefer that people should not make requests. I feel that people should come to a club or an event with an open mind and just enjoy something different.
In the past I’ve had a number of situations where someone would come and try to shout in my ear and sing the lyrics, so just a little note to all – Please know your music and see what the DJ is playing and based on that make a request. If the DJ is playing techno, then don’t request a Pitbull song.
What shows/residencies do you have lined up?
I have a residency at Qbar where I play on the terrace every Tuesday. This year, I am extremely happy and proud to have been added to Champion Sound’s resident roster where I will be playing alongside Kimball Collins, Sarayu and Dan Buri at Bed Supperclub. I will also be doing a couple of gigs in Europe this summer.
My next event is on Thursday, Feb. 7 at Bed Supperclub for the Champion Sound Residents Night.
