Hang the DJ: Episode 10 – Peppe

The insulting riches of Bangkok’s party scene exist thanks in no small part to the army of DJs who organize, promote and rock the living hell out of the city’s nightlife. In “Hang the DJ,” Coconuts gives you a chance to get acquainted with some of the capital’s better beatsmiths.

How did you get into DJ-ing?

I have always been involved in music. When I was 13, I had the honor of being one of the first clarinet players in a big orchestra. From that, I went to being in a punk rock band and then two years ago putting my hands on the knobs. Still, I don’t consider myself a DJ. Being a DJ involves years of experience and a fantastic technique, which will only come with time and passion.

Describe the music you play in five words.

Deep, vocal, techno, house

What’s the most fun you’ve ever had at a gig? Give us all the ugly details.

I was playing with Super Star Panda at a Thai festival in Bangkok and the lineup was full of dirty electro DJs. At one point we were playing and one of them came and said, “Oh! You forgot your effects machine, I can lend you mine! No problem, bro.”

What’s your favorite venue to play in Bangkok?

For a sunset set Viva & Aviv for sure. Glow Nightclub is always the venue for a good night.

Which track are you most excited about right now?

Phonique & Pupkulies ft. Rebecca – “One Step (Kolombo Remix)” Although it was released last year, it’s still bouncing around in my head!

Dubstep: yea or nay?

Good music is good music! Nothing excluded.

______ always packs the dance floor.”

Spencer Parker – “Yogoto (Original Mix)”

What’s one song you will never, ever play?

Rotterdam Terror Corps – “God is a Gabber” [Fair enough. – ed.]

What’s the best way for someone to get you to play their request?

Ask for a track that I have with me!

What shows/residencies do you have lined up?

I am more and more involved in the organizing side of With Love. For sure that is my residency, plus a couple of new projects coming up in the next few months. Check the With Love Facebook page for updates.
