Groove Armada’s not so groovy show

How could a globally acclaimed electronic mega-duo go from putting on shows like this to gigs such as last Thursdays show at LED nightclub on RCA?

Every now and then good acts put on bad shows, it’s just the way it is; but in last Thursday’s case there were a number of factors coming together to minimize the crowd’s enjoyment.

Groove Armada, who came on at midnight, cranked out a rather bland set comprised of samples of their popular songs over a droning bass line that seems to have never changed. The entire set lacked melody and was very predictable. It seemed as if they were about to redeem themselves when we would hear a small sample of “Superstylin’” or “I See You Baby” but that short sample would fade into the same boring beat.

Of course, all this wouldn’t really matter if you had a nice buzz going on, but any decent buzz would have been killed by the 30-minute wait for a drink at the main bar, or the 20-minute wait at the secondary bar, which ran out of beer before the main act even came on.

The halfhearted DJ set and lack of booze made for a crowd that clearly just wasn’t feeling it; they were waiting and waiting for something to come on that could ignite them, but it never came.
