“Dancing with the Stars” has finally come to Thailand and former Miss Universe and woman-about-Bangkok Natalie Glebova is a contestant! Glebova spoke to Coconuts about heating up the dancefloor on the show.
What was your initial reaction to being chosen for Dancing with the Stars?
My reaction was “this is a dream-come-true” for me. I’ve been waiting for this show to come to Thailand for many years, and I’ve dreamt of dancing on this show ever since I watched the US version. I was thrilled to have the honor to be one of the stars, as I love to dance and learn new techniques and steps and then perform them. I feel that performance and dance is in my blood – I’ve always involved myself in some kind of performances all through middle and high school.
What goes through your mind when you are dancing in front of the judges?
I try not to think too much when I’m dancing in front of the audience, cameras, and judges. I clear my mind backstage, and focus on the dance and the moment. I usually count the beats in my head and put myself into character. I put everything inside of me into the performance, and try to express that through my movements and face expressions.
How have your personal interests and/ or fitness routines prepared you for the competition?
As many people know I love to exercise and keep an active lifestyle. Dancing is a big part of my fitness regime as well as a big passion in my life. I love going dancing, whether is’t out to a club with friends or salsa. I always advocate people to take up dancing as part of their fitness regiment, as it is so much fun and easier than sticking to a boring gym routine.
Who do you think is your biggest competition on the show?
I think my biggest competition is the youngest contestant on the show, the 16-year old hip hop superstar – Timethai. He knows how to move to the music and is a great dancer. I took a lot of pointers from his first dance, which was the cha-cha-cha (same as mine) – how he struck every pose with confidence and looked sharp.
How have your friends and loved ones shown support?
My parents are so supportive and happy for me, although they live in US and cannot physically be here to support me, they are giving me mental and emotional support. My boyfriend and friends have been a great support team as well. They come to every show to cheer me on, and have been fantastic at getting other people to vote for me.
What else are you juggling these days besides “Dancing with the Stars”?
It is hard to juggle anything else now that I’m living and breathing “Stars.” The only thing I still focus on besides the dancing, is writing for my health/wellness blog HHBLife.com. I’m also studying for a Nutrition certificate online.
How do you plan to celebrate if you win the competition?
I’m planning to take my dance partner and my closest friends out to celebrate with a delicious dinner, big cake and dancing the night away!
Every week a contestant gets eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars” but if Natalie is still alive, you can show your support by sending a text “DWTS 2” to 4777999.
