Bangkok-based jazzheads rejoice! Along with some help from the Dutch embassy in Thailand, the second edition of the Bangkok City of Jazz festival is coming up on October 12th.
Legendary Thai jazz artist Koh Mr. Saxman and the renowned Beets Brothers from the Netherlands will be giving a performance based on some re-arranged compositions written by the King himself. The musicians apparently spent two years collaborating on this endeavor and made a special CD to be released for the occasion. Chicago’s own jazz-divaPaullete McWilliams will also be joining in, who has previously toured all over the world with impressive musicians like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Quincy Jones.
The festival’s humble origins date to when three Dutch brothers Marius, Alexander and Peter Beets visited Thailand for the first time to perform during the Bangkok Dance & Music festival. They’ve been back many times ever since, performing in Bangkok, Koh Samui and Hua Hin on multiple occasions. Last year’s festival hosted over 15 concerts, a jazz conference, and various workshops in order to explore the local jazz scene and establish the right contacts for any future events.
