Artist exhibits Buddhist folklore paintings on the nature of life

The truth to life is a secret right under our nose that we cannot see, according to Thai artist Katika Krachaisri, who aims to communicate the nature of life in her Buddhism-inspired painting exhibition.

Showing turbulence and movement in her work, Katika combines different techniques from many art forms such as Asian batik textile, Australian aboriginal work, European arts and more. Her paintings communicate Buddhist folktales using elaborate imagery.

The artist claims there are no real messages behind her work, but more of a “visual emotional reference” that is meant to speak to each observer on a very personal level.

Katika wants her audience to have the opportunity to focus on the aspects of her work that “call” to them, and dive into their own personal “visual journey.”

The exhibition runs at CHOMP from Feb. 5 – 29. The opening party starts at 8pm and features electronic music from Judy Bozone. Entry is free.
