Palme d’Or-winning Apitchatpong Weerasethakul’s latest feature film will finally show in Thai cinemas next month.
Apichatpong’s ninth film, Memoria, was shot outside Thailand with an entirely non-Thai cast including British actress Tilda Swinton, who plays a British expat in Colombia. It will premiere domestically on March 3.
The story revolves around Jessida (Swinton), who is awakened by a loud bang at dawn that sends her traveling through the Colombian landscape – mountains, caves and streams – with a haunting sound in her head.
After winning the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the film went on to receive the Gold Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival. It was selected as Colombia’s entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
