Finally, Bangkok has an event that won’t be virtual.

Bangkok’s old quarter will come alive with lighting installations, projection mappings, photo exhibitions and more for Cultural District 2021, running all October after being postponed from April.

The historical Museum Siam building will blend photo exhibitions and artwork showcases. Running throughout the month will be an exhibition of glass plate negatives reflecting memories of several artists.

The event’s highlight will take place Oct. 15-17, when Rangsit University students and T’la Frame Studio showcase a trippy animation of optical illusions. The group will also host a workshop for those who want to learn how it’s done.

Lighting installation and projection mapping onto the building of Museum Siam will also take place solely on that weekend.

Live music performances were canceled due to Bangkok’s ongoing COVID-19 situation. Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask.

Cultural District 2021 will run Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 at Museum Siam, which can be reached via MRT Sanam Chai. Admission is free. More information will be provided online.
