From the films-set-in-Thailand department comes a blood-soaked slasher with a Western take on the kumarn tong.
“Pernicious” looks sort of like The Hangover, but with the white babes and a lot more blood. The winsome trio are apparently in the kingdom to teach English during the summer when they encounter the vengeful spirit of a murdered child who … well you can guess the rest. The notable inclusion of something Thai here is the pernicious spirit is an aged-up kumarn tong who appears covered in gold foil but past that fetal stage of development that is off-putting to farang sensibilities.
Thai production house Benetone Films worked on the film, which was shot at Kantana Movie Town just east of Bangkok, according to Film in Thailand.
The movie was either released last year or is currently seeking wider distribution, depending on how you look at it.
