Something Disney-related will open next month at the riverside Asiatique shopping mall, but what that means still remains unclear seven months after it was announced.
It does have a name however: Disney100 Village. And dates: March 24 to July 31. Asiatique said it spent THB200 million (US$5.8 million) – part of a THB800 million renovation for the decade-old mall – for the temporary attraction that coincides with The Walt Disney Co.’s 100th anniversary.
“[T]here will be a variety of themed exhibition zones for everyone to experience over 100 years of timeless stories and iconic characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars,” mall owner Asset World Corp. said in its announcement.
While further details were scarce, it seems that it will feature zones for the House of Mouse’s extensive library of intellectual property: Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Disney princesses, and, this being Thailand, one entirely dedicated to Frozen.
It added that tickets would go on sale “soon” via Thai Ticket Major.
Asiatique’s project includes other temporary events such as “Festival Village” to promote existing attractions such as its ferris wheel, merry-go-round, haunted mansion, and “Calypso” show. There may also be a treetop adventure, zipline to the river, and food and drink booths spread out through two warehouses, and possibly a new Big C supermarket .
The project will also implement a lifestyle market in collaboration with the organizers of food event Mad Face and hipster flea market Made by Legacy.
