17 suitcases later, Miss Thailand booted off at final six

The hope for Thailand to win the most prestigious beauty pageant crumbled when our contestant, Chalita “Namtarn” Suansane, was eliminated from the final six at the Miss Universe competition in Manila this morning.

While Namtarn was not named the most beautiful woman in the world, she made a positive impression on pageant fans worldwide, gaining millions of online votes.

Namtarn looked stunning on stage in a black gown by Thai designer label ASAVA. The outfit was inspired by some of Queen Sirikit’s early looks and took five months to make.

In the question round, Namtarn was asked to name the current or past world leader she admires the most, she won the hearts of Thais when she answered the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

“That person is my king. Since I was born, I had seen him work hard on behalf of the Thai people. To the Thai people, his majesty was our father. Thank you,” Namtarn answered in Thai.

Despite the heartfelt statement and the many, many costumes she brought in her 17 suitcases, Namtarn sadly did not make it to the top three.

On Twitter, Thai fans posted their messages of support to Namtarn. Many said that she did her best and that she’s the most beautiful woman for them. The hashtag #Namtarn ranked third this morning for the most trending hashtag on Twitter.

The final three were contestants from Colombia, France and Haiti. At 10:05am, Miss France, Iris Mittenaere, was crowned Miss Universe 2016.
