A video of Thais pushing each other at a 7-Eleven store to get their hands on popular Japanese branded ice cream went viral this week — despite doubts from netizens that the footage could be the brand’s marketing scheme.
The video shows a dozen locals going berserk and shoveling Glico ice creams from the cardboard boxes into their baskets like hungry zombies. Obviously, they didn’t waste time waiting for the store to put the ice creams into the freezer first.
The Glico ice cream, which is a “must-eat” snack for Thais when visiting Japan, hit Thai stores in January and has created a stir of excitement among the locals. At first, the brand only sold their ice-cream at a few stores, leaving Thais to want more.
But from our observation, the Glico ice cream is not exactly rare now. (Check large supermarkets.)
The video was shared on Facebook earlier this week and has been reposted by several users. It is unclear where it was filmed.
The Thai commenters say the footage proves we are as amazing as Chinese tourists, who shoveled shrimps with their plates at a seafood buffet in Chiang Mai last month.
