The drink designed for Tauruses is topped with two red peppers to resemble a bull while Aries’ drink is strong and full of courage with a taste of absinthe. At Gypsy Spells, drinks are personalized based on your zodiac sign and personality.
Paintings of tarot cards line the walls. Candlelight flickers, and fortune telling sessions are available with bookings. Gypsy Spells, a relatively new colonial-style bar in Asoke, brings a touch of spirituality to a night out in a city full of spirit houses and shrines.
“The bar has a voodoo concept. I want this place to be a fun experience…a different option on Sukhumvit Road among luxurious, hi-so bars,” said Petcharat Kittiboonyopas, the owner.
Gypsy Spells opened late last year under the same roof as Mahanaga Restaurant, which serves Thai food. The bar acts as an after-dinner venue.
The Cocktails
Gypsy Spells’ signature drinks are inspired by the 12 zodiac signs and their characteristics. Each has a different alcohol, and the tastes range from very boozy to sweet.
Our favorite is Gemini, which comes in a set of two, representing the the symbol of the twins. Both taste sweet and sour — almost like a margarita but with a scent of elderflower.
Another cocktail that stands out is Taurus. Those born under the earth sign are reliable, patient, practical, and responsible. The main ingredient in this drink is vodka tempered with pomegranate juice and peach schnapps. Plus, the drink is decorated with red peppers to make your glass look like its symbol — the bull.
The absinthe-based Aries is the strongest drink of all. It is not for the faint of heart as the drink has a high level of booze to represent the confidence and courage of the ram.
Those who love dessert-like drinks must go for Cancer. The cocktail contains Kahlúa and hazelnut, representing the friendly and playful characteristics of this sign as people born during these dates are romantic, highly imaginative, sympathetic and deeply intuitive.
