Weekend Warrior September 27, 2013

Welcome to Weekend Warrior, where we offer you a few ideas to kick-start your weekend of mayhem. Warriors, go forth.

Friday

ON STAGE: The Mousetrap

It’s the longest-running stage show in the world and now, it’s coming to Bangkok.

Agatha Christie’s nail-biting murder mystery “The Mousetrap” first hit the stage in West London in 1952. Now, after 60 years in production, Thai audiences can take in three performances over the course of the coming weekend. Check Thaiticketmajor for tickets.

Friday and Saturday, 8 pm. THB2,000 to THB4,000. Aksra Theatre, Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel, Phaya Thai. BTS Station Victory Monument.

SING-ALONG: The Wizard of Oz Movie Musical

The yellow brick road leads all the way to Bangkok’s British Club for Bangkok Community Theatre’s interactive rendition of “The Wizard of Oz.” The film will be screened with the help of lyric sing-along sheets, goody bags, picnic supper and prizes. This event follows hotly on the ruby heels of Bangkok Community Theatre’s similar showings of “Grease”, “Hairspray” and “The Sound of Music.” Don’t forget to dress-up and slather on the green face paint!

Friday and Saturday, 6:30 pm. THB500 including pre-show supper and goody bag. The British Club, Silom Soi 18. BTS Station Chong Nonsi.

DANCE: Sébastien Léger at Glow

French house and techno legend Sébastien Léger is in Bangkok for another turn, slated to play the sweaty and intimate corners of Glow Nightclub on Friday. Monsieur Léger is, of course, one of the biggest names in electronic music for his stealthy remixes and funky minimalist sounds. What makes Léger such a master is his commitment to staying underground, despite brushes with international artists like Justin Timberlake and Daft Punk. Get to Glow early if you want to get near the DJ booth.

10 pm. THB500 including two drinks before midnight, one after. Glow Nightclub, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Station Asoke, MRT Station Sukhumvit.

Saturday

DANCE ‘N’ SPLASH: DJ Lab 2013

DJs Paul Oakenfold, White Shadow and Andy Caldwell are performing live at the W Bangkok’s Woo Bar on Saturday night. On Sunday, cool down the hangover at the pool party sprawling on the W’s Wet Deck. Is there anything sunshine and a stiff drink can’t fix?

Saturday (performances), 8 pm. Sunday (pool party), 1 pm. THB950 to THB2,900. W Bangkok. BTS Station Chong Nonsi.

TRIBUTE: The Beatles are Not Bugs

Connoisseurs of retro, look out for this tribute to the golden era of rock ‘n’ roll. Local Thai bands (including the young Beatles tribute group Mahasajan Thammada) will dip into the musical catalogue of the Fab Four, giving their own contemporary psychedelic spin to the repertoire.

8 pm. THB150 including a cute giveaway. Haus20 Design & Dine, Ramkhamhaeng 65 (Lad Phrao Soi 122). MRT Huai Khwang.

COMPETE: Foosball Contest

The Pullman G’s Playground mixology bar is getting down and dirty with this foosball showdown. If you’ve never played tabletop football, it takes a great deal of handy-work and precision – which will be put to the test as teams square off. Prizes include welcome drinks and tasty bites from one of Bangkok’s best burger joints, 25 Degrees.

9 pm. THB400 to play, free to watch. Pullman G, Silom Road. BTS Station Chong Nonsi.
