Weekend Warrior September 20, 2013

Welcome to Weekend Warrior, where we offer you a few ideas to kick-start your weekend of mayhem. Warriors, go forth.

Friday

DANCE: Bassclef Banana Bass

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”21136″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”222″,”style”:”display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

Brought to you by Bassclef, this is an evening of potassium-enriched, vitamin-infused bass and jungle beats. To make the line-up that much more juicy, the Bassclef crew is importing two DJs from Japan, DJs P.O.L. Style and Nargiz.

10 pm. Free entry. Grease, Sukhumvit 49. BTS Station Thong Lor.

JUMP: Taboo from Black Eyed Peas

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”21137″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”222″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

Get ready to see a member of the Black Eyed Peas up close and personal – no, not Fergie, not will.i.am or the Filipino guy. Word on the street is, Taboo is actually a real triple threat – not only will his solo live performance include handling the mic, but also DJing and throwing down a few dance moves. Look out for support from local mainstays the Bangkok Invaders and DJ Tony B.

11 pm. THB 1,200 including one drink. Open bar from 11:30 pm to 1 am. Bash Nightclub, Sukhumvit 11. BTS Station Nana.

Delicate x Jiving Tribe

For something more far-out, how about experimental meets dubstep? Dr. Dapookster, Space360, the Jiving Tribe Crew and folk-indie act Free Typewriter are joining up to make some neat sounds at Jam, a cozy art space and café by day, bar by night.

8 pm. THB 200. Jam, Charoen Rat Soi 1. BTS Station Surasak.

Saturday

FESTIVAL: Tempology Underground Music Festival 2013

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”21140″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”222″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

Be sure to save energy for Saturday, as it’s shaping up to be a wild night at Tempology. The promoters are calling it “the reuniting of Thai electronic” and with over 20 local artists on three stages, it’s a slogan that certainly fits. There will even be an art installation and visual mapping display, and a little market action to boot.

5 pm. THB 400 including one drink. Sonic, between Ekamai10 and Big C. BTS Station Ekamai.

TOE-TAP: Palmy Barefoot Acoustic Concert

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”21139″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”222″,”style”:”line-height: 1.538em; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

Thailand’s bohemian sweetheart Palmy is kicking off her shoes for an evening of toe-tapping country and acoustic folk rock. Palmy a.k.a. Eve Pancharoen is performing from her catalogue of crowd-pleasers, including hits like “Kidd Mak” and “Yark Rong Dang Dang.” Hugo, the Thai bluegrass artist signed to Jay Z’s label Roc Nation, warms up the stage (If you haven’t heard his rendition of “99 Problems” yet, you should be sorry). Part of the proceeds from Palmy’s concert will be donated to the Kanchanaburi Elephant House.

Saturday and Sunday, 7 pm. THB 1,500 to 3,000. Bitec Bangna (Hall 106). BTS Bang Na.

CELEBRATE: Berlin Beats One-Year Anniversary

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”21138″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”220″,”style”:”margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;”,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]

It’s the one-year anniversary of Berlin Beats, a party series honoring the world capital of underground house and techno a little closer to home. DJs Felix Moreno and Jaydubb are joined by another German DJ, Sascha Zastiral. Zastiral is an authority on Detroit techno, so expect a big helping of international beats along with the schnitzel.

10 pm. THB 300 including one drink. Glow Nightclub, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Station Asoke, MRT Station Sukhumvit.
