Cigar bar Whisgar’s takes a crack at its own weekly blues night. Playing the first edition of “Whiskey Blues” are the local boys from Keith Nolan’s Love Gone Wrong, who you may have already seen on the stages of venues like Apoteka, Fat Gut’z and Maggie Choo. Look out for sweet deals before the show, like two-for-one on single cask whiskeys.
9pm. Free entry. Whisgars, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Asoke station, MRT Sukhumvit station.
DANCE: Retox Sessions presents Miimo at Glow
[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”18543″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”222″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]
Retox Sessions is back with DJ Miimo, another great addition to a recent string of international acts at Glow Nightclub. Miimo, the resident DJ of Art Feast, has shared the stage with some of the industry’s big names, including Solomun, Joris Voorn, David August and Pan-Pot, who also made its Bangkok debut at Glow earlier this year. Show up at 11pm to take advantage of the vodka open bar.
10 pm. THB 350 including one drink. Glow Nightclub, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Asoke station, MRT Sukhumvit station.
[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”18544″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”906″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]
The saying “everything has its price” is being put to the test at “Transaction,” a new interactive performance at Democrazy Theatre Studio. Eight performers will take the stage to show off contemporary dance and even make exchanges with the audience, raising questions about human nature and the instinct to survive.
Until August 19, 22-26. 7pm. THB 399. Democrazy Theatre Studio, Soi Saphankhu, Rama 4 Road. MRT Khlong Toei station.
Saturday
DANCE: Secret Cinema (NL) @ Bed
[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”18545″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”220″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]
Secret Cinema graced the decks for the first time in Bangkok just last year, but he loved it so much he’s back again for one more drop before Bed Supperclub closes. Hailing from Holland, Jeoren Verheij is among the world’s top techno producers of the moment, with over 20 years of experience under his belt. Once again providing a hot and heavy warm-up is Bangkok’s own DJ Dan Buri.
10pm. THB 400 including one drink. Bed Supperclub, Sukhumvit 11. BTS Nana station.
[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”18546″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”221″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]
Here’s something both eccentric and tasty for the ears, what’s being called Back3Back – three DJs playing three tracks each, back to back, all night long. While this musical experiment may sound mighty confusing, you can at least trust Glow Nightclub regulars DJs Felix Moreno and Jaydubb to have a good time. Rounding out the trio is Shanghai-based DJ Jacob Unverzagt.
10 pm. THB 300 including one drink. Glow Nightclub, Sukhumvit 23. BTS Asoke station, MRT Sukhumvit station.
PERFORMANCE: The Best of Tango Argentina
[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”18547″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”800″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”600″}}]]
The Bangkok Symphony Orchestra teams up with Argentinian bandoneonist Rodolfo Mederos and conductor Carlos Izcaray to provide the soundtrack for some spicy dancing. Mederos is a master of the bandoneon, a concertino instrument much like a keyboard and known for his rich compositions and interpretations of age-old repertoire. Choreographed by Julieta Biscione and Roberto Castillo, the performance showcases a wide array of tangos from then and now including La Biblioteca to El Potenito.
8pm. THB 500 to THB 2,500. Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road. MRT Thailand Cultural Centre station.
