Ultimate juice cleanse guide: Clean your colon in Bangkok

Are you the sort of person who believes the hype of clean food? But you don’t think it “cleans” your body enough? How about starting a juice cleanse for a change?

A juice cleanse is the new “it” thing in Bangkok. With all the yummy restaurants and fun nightlife, you might want to rest your body a little. Starting a juice cleanse is one way to do that.

However, some people might argue that your body can clean itself naturally, and I’d have to agree on that to a certain degree. But, if you party hard, live in a polluted area (who doesn’t in Bangkok?), eat serious red meat, and don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables, then taking a break and doing a juice cleanse could help your body in addition to the natural way.

I’ve done a cleanse quite a few times this year and from my experience, it mainly helps the digestive system. (A cleanse normally starts with 3 days but if you are a champ, you could do a whole week). Typically, you drink a bottle of cold-pressed juice every two hours and you don’t eat any solid food.

If you stick to pure juice, it also cleans your colon because you don’t eat anything. Duh! Thus, your skin improves and gets brighter. Oh, it also helps you to lose weight — not much and you could also feel a bit bloated from drinking water — but not eating solid food for 3 days will definitely help you lose some pounds.

You might wonder, how will I survive without eating food for three days? You actually have enough energy for the day, but if you are really hungry, you can slip in a bottle of soy or almond milk. The whole point is to keep your body clean without killing yourself. However, during the day, if you encounter drowsiness, just lay down or walk it off. You can actually still do routine exercise, but take it easy.

Are you all excited about this now?.

Here is a list of 5 shops that take online orders or via LINE and they deliver the detox set to your doorstep.

1. Me Juice

I’ve personally ordered from this shop at least half a dozen times. From trying quite a few brands around Bangkok, I feel the taste of this juice is the most wholesome, as it feels like I’m drinking greens when I drink the pure veggie ones. You can choose to have glass or plastic bottles. If you opt for glass, you get a B10 discount per bottle the next time you order if you return the bottles.

Three day set with 18 bottles costs THB3,600.

2. Make it Happen Juice

This is one of the most colorful juices on the market, with a variety to pick from. The bottles are, however, smaller than other brands (290ml.). The taste is on the sweet side so it’s easy to drink. They also have quite a few flavors of almond milk. This brand is also available at Emquartier.

Two and a half day set of 18 bottles (8 bottles/day and 2 bottles on the 3rd day) costs THB2,050.

3. TSpoon

This is the latest brand I’ve tried. Although, I personally had a misunderstanding with the vendor which resulted in my 2nd and 3rd day drinks going bad, their juices were actually quite tasty and easy to drink. So make sure after you LINE them, you pick up the phone to clearly explain when you want it delivered AND when you actually want to to start the program. This brand doesn’t offer too much variety but the combination of each bottle is good.

4. Veggiology

The founder of this brand started a “taste” lab to create cold-pressed juices because she had a tumor and she wanted to fix herself from the inside. Veggiology offers one of the most varied green juice options. If you can’t drink spinach, you can opt for romain or sunflower sprouts instead.

Three day set of 18 bottles costs THB4,500.

5. Daily Cold Pressed Juice

This brand has just celebrated its first anniversary, and based on reviews it tastes good, which is why it has lasted this long. They only have 10 types of juices with 3 pure greens but they all look solid judging from the ingredients (spinach-based for the green ones).

Three day set of 18 bottles costs THB3,600.

*The above prices are for 500ml per bottle unless otherwise stated.

Now you have found the type of juice cleanse you want to do, what’s next?

Think of juice cleansing as a chance to reset your body and re-balance your system. Once you have finished the detox, try to eat light meals for the first few days. Stick to vegan or veggie meals, if possible. Try to avoid meat at the beginning to help your digestive system slowly get back to work.

With a juice cleanse, you don’t have to do it every month, but I’d say, do it when you feel like your body needs a break. I do it every few months or when I’ve been partying way too much.

Happy cleansing!
