Tropical Truffle: A white truffle was found growing in a forest in Northern Thailand

That’s the truffle.
That’s the truffle.

A white truffle was found growing in Chiang Mai’s Doi Suthep Park and foodies and biologists alike are freaking out because it was believed that truffles can’t grow in tropical climates.

Yesterday, Chiang Mai University biologists, who found the truffle, held a press conference to state that is was possible for pricy truffles to grow in the country. They revealed that the truffle they found is one of the most expensive in the world and was the first to be found growing in the wild in Thailand, reported Chiang Mai City Life.

The finding of the white truffle, which can go for up to THB160,000 (USD4,825) a kilogram, will kick off research to learn if white truffle farming is feasible in the country.
