File this one in your memory banks for the next time you’re looking for a light, flavorful snack in Bangkok’s old town: There’s a small shophouse now offering cheap and cheerful khanom Tokyo crepes with taco fillings, and more.

The spot just opened up a few weeks ago, though it’s already become a popular stop among many of our city’s most diligent trend chasers. Tokyo Hot serves tiny crepes with a variety of fillings, the highlight being the Khanom Tokyo Taco (THB40 per piece) containing rich, savory salsa, fresh diced tomatoes, onions, shredded lettuce and cheese.

With the salted egg trend still going strong, the kitchen created a savory-sweet pumpkin-coconut custard with salted egg filling, and they’re only THB15 per piece.

But if your tongue is trained to love spicy stuff, then go for the spicy mala chicken (THB30) or krapao pork with egg (THB30). We hear that more types of fillings will be added to the menu in the future.

Tokyo Hot is located on Soi Charoen Krung 24 and can be reached from MRT Hua Lamphong or BTS Saphan Taksin. It’s open for lunch and dinner daily except for Thursday and Sunday.

For those who aren’t familiar with khanom Tokyo, it’s a common street snack often sold from carts. The thin, flat pancakes are typically made with sausage (usually low grade), minced pork, quail eggs or custard cream. Although the name suggests that it originated in Japan, the finger food is actually of Thai invention and can’t be found in Tokyo.
