Bangkok’s plant-based scene was just coming into its own and now venues are facing tough odds of survival. Now two plant-based power evangelists are stepping up – and forward – to help them out.
Later this month, Max Hellier and Joanna Hellier, the folks behind plant-based blog and sustainability platform Root the Future, are organizing Running for Restaurants, a marathon to raise funds for Bangkok’s growing number of veg restaurants.
Max and Joanna are asking people to sponsor their 42-kilometer run, performed after just two weeks of training, which should make for quite a challenge.
All proceeds will go to a total of 23 plant-based venues to help them pay staff, utilities, rent, and any other costs they’re incurring because of the lockdown.
Sponsorship in this case means buying THB500 or THB1,000 food vouchers that consumers can spend at any of the restaurants after the marathon ends, once the restrictions have eased.
Some of the restaurants include Barefood, Broccoli Revolution, Kappra Cafe, Bangkok City Diner and Vistro. Supporters can check on the donation status each day, and then tune in to Instagram Live on July 30 to support, or rubber-neck, as the run takes place.
