No need to fly to Hong Kong to drink at the (supposed) best bar in Asia.

Crowned first on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list last month, The Old Man has – since last week – found a temporary home in Bangkok, and it looks almost exactly like the original outpost, with a striking geometric portrait of American writer Ernest Hemingway on the wall.

The Bangkok bar is being looked after by bartender Agung Prabowo and his team, who will be serving all of The Old Man’s signature cocktails. Among them are In Our Time (a blend of clarified banana ghee and celery, salted tequila and spiced banana skin tincture) and A Moveable Feast (rotovap sea, clear spiced cherry tomato, coconut and oyster leaves, all infused in cheesewax).

Other drinks to choose from are The Sun Also Rises (essentially a Negroni, but with a curry infusion) and The Snows of Kilimanjaro (marshmallow gin topped with Gruyere cheese).

All drinks are priced at THB420 each.

The Old Man’s pop-up in Bangkok will take place in the lobby of luxury riverside hotel Mandarin Oriental. It is open from 7pm until late every day, except Sunday, until August 31.

The original cocktail bar in Hong Kong opened in August 2017 in the city’s Soho district by a dream team of mixologists: Agung Prabowo, James Tamang and Roman Ghale. Its theme is devoted to the world-famous writer Ernest Hemingway and his novels.
