Sustainable eating on the menu with 7-course dinner, discussion at Seven Spoons

Even the most woke and ethical of us know that it’s not always easy to eat in the most responsible way, especially in Bangkok. Sure, you can eschew plastic bags and buy organic, but what about how responsibly the food is grown? A dining event next Saturday at Old Town’s Seven Spoons aims to shed light on the topic of sustainable eating in Thailand.

Taste Sustainability will offer a seven-course tasting menu comprised of sustainably and locally-grown foodstuffs. On the menu is calamari, avocado, unripe papaya, pickles, headcheese, cricket-flour gnocchi, black basil, and free-range chicken. Finish the night with a sesame mousse.

Also on the evening’s menu is a panel discussion with some of the the city’s key thinkers on food sustainability.

Organizer Regan Pairojmahakij said, “It’s a challenge in Bangkok to be able to access quality, sustainably produced products, particularly meat. However, the more people are aware of the impact their food has on the environment, the more this will inform their shopping decisions and the easier it will get to find ingredients that are ethically and ecologically produced.”

Also, 10 percent of the proceeds will go to ThaiHarvest-SOS, an NGO dedicated to reducing food waste.
