Bad news for waffle and root beer float fans today, as A&W Thailand has called it quits due to huge pandemic losses.

The global chain’s local holding company announced recently that it lost over THB70 million (US$2.1 million) last year and is divesting of all A&W businesses in Thailand.

In January, A&W closed its branch in Siam Square, one of its oldest.

The 26 remaining branches will continue to operate normally for now. Whether they are closed for good or passed into other hands is yet to be seen.

The fast food chain first opened in 1983 at Central Ladprao.
