A southern Thai fine-dining outpost in Soi Sukhumvit 26 and recent addition to the two-star Michelin club has been named Asia’s second-best restaurant.

Based on more than 6,000 food reviewers and bloggers worldwide, Opinionated About Dining, or OAD, put Bangkok’s southern Thai specialist Sorn one notch below Shanghai single-table experimental restaurant Ultraviolet on its Top 100+ Asia Restaurants of 2020 list.

Sorn opened on Soi Sukhumvit 26 in May 2018. The founder of the restaurant, Supaksorn”Ice” Jongsiri, was also behind popular southern Thai cuisine chain Baan Ice.

The other restaurants in Bangkok to make the list out this week were contemporary German eaterie Sühring (No. 12), modern Thai food restaurant Paste (No. 29), avant-garde Indian-Thai Gaa (No. 38) and omakase-style sushi bar Sushi Ichizu (No. 39).

OAD was launched in 2007 by Steve Plotnicki, an American restaurant veteran. Its voting system is conducted by a survey of more than 6,000 reviewers – who are food bloggers or recognized dining industry experts across the globe.
