Life can be a little bittersweet, so raise a glass and toast its complexity next week when Bangkok soaks in classic Italian cocktails.
Spanning seven days – Monday through Sept. 18 – Negroni Week will take over dozens of Bangkok bars with highlights like special guest shifts and one bar vying to create the world’s “largest Negroni cocktail.”
Negroni Week was launched in 2013 by Campari, and after 10 years has grown from 100 U.S. bars to more than 10,000 establishments around the world.
Here are a few places to check out:
Kimpton Maa-Lai Hotel
This posh spot on tony Langsuan Road will host an official launch party in its Urban Oasis garden where organizers will attempt a Guinness World Records feat with the largest Negroni cocktail. Expect to see a specially built acrylic container surrounded by ice on display and drink all the negroni you can for THB1,200. A portion of the proceeds will go to Slow Food International, an organization that promotes local food culture and traditions.
Inside the hotel, head to Ms. Jigger, Bar Yard, and Craft for more of the stuff, as the bars will serve special negroni drinks with modern takes and fun flairs like a Maa-Lai Highball (ongan cordial, pink grapefruit juice, lemon sparkling water, and edible pomelo perfume), Negroni Spritz with lod chong syrup, passion fruit, Thai tea cordial, and Cinzano prosecco. Each is THB440 per glass. Ms. Jigger will exclusively serve the Ice Negroni, which comes in a glass made entirely of ice for THB750.
The St. Regis Bar
Linger over a classic cocktail with a backdrop of the setting sun on the 12th floor of The St. Regis Bar which on Tuesday will welcome Jane Kaew-Yod, award-winning bartender and founder of Suvarn Bar on Koh Samui, who will make drinks for one night only.
The Bamboo Bar
Symphony Loo, Campari’s brand ambassador of Southeast Asia, will make her way to the jazz institution and bring her own spin to negroni on Wednesday.
Stella Bar
Formerly shaking drinks at Thonglor bar Rabbit Hole and the now-defunct Liberation, Suwincha “Chacha” Singsuwan will take over Stella Bar at Capella Bangkok Hotel on Thursday night for her interpretation of negroni drinks.
Firefly Bar
It’s Friday again, and the negroni keeps pouring. Tamaryn Cooper of Asia Today will take over Firefly Bar inside the Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel one night only from 8pm until late on Sept. 16.
Lennon’s
Hang out at the high-end, vinyl record-filled speakeasy with Federico Balzarini. At Italo-Disco Night, the Milan-born mixologist and new manager of Vesper will make special negroni drinks to go with groovy ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s tunes on Sept. 16.
The Parlor, The Standard Bangkok
On Sept. 17, the newly opened all-day resto inside The Standard Bangkok Mahanakhon hosts the Next-Level Negroni Night with fanciful versions of negroni drinks crafted by award-winning mixologist Milk Thanaworachayaki. The three-hour, free-flow event is THB1,200 per person.
