COCONUTS HOT SPOT — After nine months with the late night crowd in Thonglor, Orn the Road has driven their burger grill over to greener pastures on Silom Road.
Open in the afternoons and easy to find next to the Holiday Inn at the top end of the road, this seems to be the first decent burger at an affordable price in the Silom area. We no longer have to settle for mediocre Carl’s Jr. or worse. Even better are a few nice spots to sit outside under the shade of an umbrella and watch the office lunchtime crowds flock about.
There are two “quality” options between the burgers: the “standard” (THB160) or “premium” (THB 260) which begs the obvious question “what’s wrong with the standard?”
While there is a noticeable difference here, the “premium” label may be exaggerated, and safe to say the budget option is just fine for the hundred-baht savings.
Burger creations range between American classics such as the Dixie BBQ to Asian-fusion flavors including a Tokyo Burger with Enoki ‘shrooms and Wasabi mayo. The ringleaders of the two styles come down to the Bangkok burger, which incorporates a blend of spicy ka prao-like seasonings, and the Cajun burger, which relies on a Louisiana paprika-cayenne mix.
Other standard toppings can be had for a few coins more, most worthy being the really generous real-cheddar cheese. The fries on the other hand? Give those a miss.

Now some bun fun facts. Statistics show 99 percent who saw the above picture immediately gave extended notice to the darker kin of the often bleached-out buns that many incorrectly think are more beautiful or hi-so. Of those, nearly two-thirds wrongly identify “ink squid” to be the cause of this atrocity. But that ain’t no such thing.
The best explanation we could get was something about incorporating very-roasted vegetables into the dough recipe. But should customers prefer to stay in their comfort zone, they can still go white upon request.
Orn says she’s been in the food service biz since 1989, specializing in Western dishes, and the truck has been out delivering ground fleisch for nearly a year now. If her burger is any indication, we believe her.
