If you’re looking for a new place to wind down after a long day, this fresh-faced drinking den on Soi Sukhumvit may be worth checking out.
On the same corner of Soi Sukhumvit 26 that One Day hostel, trendy cafe Casa Lapin, and the recently-opened Samui-style restaurant Marigold are all clustered, Serial Laughter is a new cocktail bar that fills in the boozy hole that previously existed on the block.
The bar opened just a few weeks ago, with a connected door to Marigold, and a menu of signature cocktails that are influenced by tropical flavors. The small space can accommodate only 10 customers, so it’s probably best for drinkers who prefer a quiet and intimate atmosphere while sipping on cold craft cocktails.
Eat Like A Local: Samui-style Southern Thai Restaurant Lands in Phrom Phong
Led by Suphap “Fah” Seekiau, the mixology team brings summer vacay and island paradise to their concoctions — which can also be paired with southern-style Thai dishes that are served right next door. It’s a great pairing, said Fah, since the acidic ingredients in the drinks can help mellow down the spicy kick and strong flavors of the food from Marigold’s kitchen.
The most popular item here (so far) is the drink Find Me Under the Coconut Tree (THB340), a blend of coconut oil-infused gin, coconut water and grapefruit bitters with a piece of torched fresh coconut on top. Fah recommends taking a bite of the coconut topping before taking a sip of the booze, which provides a sweet start and bitter end.
For those who prefer something refreshing and easy-to-drink, then the Moonchild (THB340) is ideal for that. This cocktail mixes homemade limoncello, a sweet Italian lemon liqueur with a serious kick, with honey, cranberry and lemon juice and egg whites. The latter creates a frothy topping in the cup, and adds a creamy decadence.
For something that strikes a balance between the flavor profiles of the two aforementioned drinks, try the Act Like Summer (THB380). Here, a strong spirit base contrasts with highly acidic fruit to provide a spirit-forward, flavor-intense drink that’s still refreshing. The fizzy drink is made with homemade pineapple juice, pineapple liqueur, Indian tonic water and fernet. A slice of dehydrated pineapple that sits atop the glass is not only there to add visual flair: It’s meant to be eaten slowly throughout the drink, so that its flavors enhance the cocktail.
During the soft opening (which is planned to run until next month), the bar is offering a buy-two-get-one-free drink deal.
